What is the difference between the CACQS and the CIQS?

 

The Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) is the “self-regulatory, professional body that sets the highest standard for construction economics in Canada”. It promotes professional development for individual members in the construction economics or Quantity Surveying profession and regulates the designations of Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) and Construction Estimator Certifier (CEC).

 

The Canadian Association of Consulting Quantity Surveyors (CACQS) is the Association that represents firm members that offer consulting Quantity Surveying services. The CACQS has firm members with professional staff. At least one of the firm’s Senior Directors or Officers has the Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation.

 


What is the objective or mission of the CACQS?

 

The mission for the CACQS is to advance the consulting Quantity Surveying industry in Canada. See CACQS Mission for the Mission and Objectives of the Association.

What is a firm member?

 

A firm member is an Member of the CACQS. The Association Bylaws defines a firm and Member as a “corporation, partnership, or an individual practicing under their own name” which has applied for Association membership and been accepted by the Association’s Board of Directors.

 


 

Who are the clients for firm members? To which clients do firm members provide consulting Quantity Surveying services?

 

The firm members provide consulting Quantity Surveying services to public and private sector client groups in the construction industry. See CACQS Home for a list of consulting Quantity Surveying services offered by firm members.

 


 

How does my firm, corporation, or partnership join the CACQS?

 

Your firm, corporation or partnership needs to have been engaged in consulting Quantity Surveying in Canada for at least 1 year (this provision may be waived by the Board). At least one of your firm, corporation or partnership’s senior directors or officers needs to have a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation.

Are there any restrictions on the size of my firm, corporation, or partnership?

 

Your firm, corporation or partnership will need at least one senior director or officer holding a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) designation. Other than this admission requirement, there are no restrictions on the size of firm members.

What is the significance of the membership categories?

 

There are three categories of membership based on the number of professional and technical staff resident in Canada. Each of the different membership categories will decide your membership fees and the number of representatives you shall have at the Annual General Meeting or General Meetings.

Which firms and Canadian regions are represented on the Association’s Board of Directors?

 

The Association Bylaws allow for up to 10 directors on the Association Board of Directors. At this time all firm members are represented on the Board. Collectively, the firm members have offices or are providing consulting Quantity Surveying services in all 10 Provinces of Canada.
